Liver Transplants for Neuroendocrine Cancer patients
In this episode, Neuroendocrine Cancer UK's CEO, Catherine Bouvier, talks to Dr Tahir Shah about his work in developing a new service for Neuroendocrine Cancer patients to improve outcomes and their quality of life through using surgery and liver transplantation.
Dr Shah is a Consultant Liver Transplant Physician at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He is also Lead Clinician for the Neuroendocrine Tumour [NET] and Hepatocellular Cancer [HCC] Services at Birmingham.
He developed specialist services for Midlands’ Neuroendocrine Tumour patients resulting in the Birmingham NET Service becoming a European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society [ENETS] certified Centre of Excellence. Dr Shah is leading a number of additional service improvement initiatives including: delivery of a national programme of Liver Transplantation for unresectable NET Liver Metastases, creation of a comprehensive service for patients with carcinoid heart disease and standardising initial management of Neuroendocrine Tumours, including lung NETs.
